Every two years, the Work Permit for your domestic helper needs to be renewed. 

To make the process as seamless as possible, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will send a renewal letter eight weeks before the expiry of the current Work Permit.

  2. Personal Accident Insurance – At least $60,000 per year.
  3. Security Bond – $5,000 for non-Malaysian helpers.
  4. Renewal Fee – $35 for online applications.
  5. Passport – Scan the personal particulars page, including any updates. If the passport is expiring soon, arrange a renewal with the respective embassy.
  6. Delivery Details for Work Permit Card (if needed)- Provide Names and mobile numbers for up to 3 authorized recipients. Whether a new card is required to be issued depends on MOM. 

Step 1: Renew The Domestic Helper Insurance

Ensure the medical and accident insurance coverage meets MOM’s minimum requirements.

Align the insurance start date with the Work Permit (WP) issuance date. 

Double-check details to ensure smooth processing of the security bond.

Make sure your insurer submits the bond details to MOM.

Keep a scanned copy of the Security Bond Transmission Number for verification.

Get your domestic helper insurance from renowned insurance providers FWD or Hong Leong Assurance.

Step 2: Sign A New Employment Contract

Review and update the employment contract, if necessary. 

This will clarify terms between you and your helper and ensure mutual understanding of expectations and responsibilities.

Step 3: Verify All Documentation And Submit the Application

Complete the online renewal application on the MOM webpage.

There is a $35 renewal fee at the end of the application.

She cannot switch to a different industry unless she is able to qualify for an S Pass or employment pass.
